Housing Stability

Safe and stable shelter is the cornerstone of all other basic needs. Without a stable place to live, families have nowhere to feel safe or cook food, and this can lead to a host of other adverse health effects. Homelessness, unaffordable rental rates, and threats of eviction or violence destabilize families and place particular stress on children.

What we fund

Sunlight Giving partners with organizations that provide:
Prevention services to avoid families from becoming homeless in the first place through emergency financial assistance and legal support.
Emergency Shelters
Emergency and transitional shelters and housing that ensure families have a roof over their head on any given night.
Systems Change
Policy, advocacy, and systems work to improve the system of homeless services and affordable housing.

What We Look For

We look for organizations that are able to address immediate needs of homeless or housing-insecure families, while also helping get them into stable, long-term housing.

What We Don't Fund

Shelters for single adults, housing related to mental health or addiction treatments, or projects to develop housing.
